Lemurian Time Warriors

Live PA

Have you heard of Lemurian Time Warriors?

Messages about them get around, but they often bend, torque, or fail. This is, in part, because these time warriors are caustic to dominant modes of thinking, and part because they appeal to us not from a place, but from a phase-state.

Their temporality is called Lemuria. Their Time War is a “non-linear insurgency, fought retro-causally from the shadows of discarded futures.” They want us to listen now, and their music is both our reward for detecting them, and an entry point to their fold.

This is the music of Eris Nyx and Zach Treble (aka ZDBT). Modelling the intensity with which direct action and speculation can happen at once, Lemurian Time Warriors generate a forceful and extremely pleasurable sound — “wetware,” they call it, camouflaged as music.

With the heated immediacy by which a possibility can become the present, their live performances easily perforate venues reserved for ravers, haters, EBM, new romantics, pop fanatics, heavy steppers, etc. Its versatility lies in its hard-hitting, genre-dissolving production, the highly attuned presence of this multiversal duo, and their unflinching commitment to communicating with us from their fertile world.

While the personal side effects of experiencing their output are largely ours to determine, the public ones are unmissable and urgent. As active and tireless “musicians,” Lemurian Time Warriors generate attention, money, and whatever other resources they can to channel directly into an equity-driven, life-saving project lovingly known as DULF.

The measurable side effects of this particular Time War:

DULF — or, Drug Users Liberation Front — is a compassion club that supplied safe, tested drug supply to users on Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside from 2020, until it was shut down in October of 2023, culminating in its founders being arrested and charged with trafficking.

Eris Nyx and DULF’s other co-founder, Jeremy Kalicum, go to trial this year. Legal fees and public opinions continue to proliferate, while the strength of their case and the clarity of their intentions rapidly advance challenges made to the ethics and efficacy of drug laws everywhere.

This important process occurs while their liberty hangs in question. DULF was a practical and effective approach to saving the lives of those they cared about, for which they both now face criminal charges — meaning, they could “do time.”

Lemurian Time Warriors act, in every way, to minimize this possible reality by giving way, wholly, to a different one. In this one we are activated, moving to music, and we are together: consensus is irrelevant, because we are alive and in proximity.

There are as many consequences as there are new-born realities embedded in this music. Their sound has an aesthetic of circumstance, set to the driving beat of everything that is at stake. It could not be more relevant.

Thank you for paying attention. Reporting on it is an act of solidarity, if not membership, if not time-travel. Help us spread the word, however bent it gets.
