Workshop: Live Dub Mixing + iAMi Soundsystem Demo
with SEEKERSINTERNATIONAL & Gulod TanawinSaturday, October 25 – 7:15 PM - 8:00 PM
Join iAMi Soundsystem, SEEKERSINTERNATIONAL and Gulod Tanawin for an immersive exploration of live dub mixing. This workshop spans approaches - from budget friendly setups using Ableton Live and a MIDI controller, to hardware techniques rooted in sound system tradition. The goal is to provide insight into both the creative and technical foundations of dub and soundsystem music, demonstrating how to utilize mixers, controllers, and effects as instruments of improvisation.
In addition, iAMi Soundsystem will present a demonstration of the Void Soundsystem, revealing how system design and tuning shape the listener experience. iAMi draws inspiration from the foundational soundsystem cultures of reggae and dub, where sound is a physical and communal force.
Soundsystem Cultures
Panel DiscussionModerated by: ra / sol
Panelists: DJ Spinn, SEEKERSINTERNATIONAL, Simon Grefiel
Saturday, October 25 – 8:00 PM - 9:00 PM
At the intersection of rhythm and resistance lies the soundsystem: not just a stack of speakers, but a carrier of culture and connection with deep roots. In this panel, multidisciplinary artist and electronic music history researcher ra / sol leads a conversation that explores the sonic and social architectures of soundsystem subcultures across geographies and timelines.
DJ Spinn, a founding member of Chicago’s Teklife collective, brings extensive experience as one of the pioneering originators of Chicago Footwork & Juke, a sound culture born out of raw community and through dance battle circles, and that now reverberates through dancefloors across the globe.
SEEKERSINTERNATIONAL, known for their mythic dub collages and sample-based world-building, examines how sonic fiction and archival re-imagination keep sound system legacies alive while continually recontextualizing them.
Joining them is Simon Grefiel, a multidisciplinary artist and a member of Gulod Tanawin, a collective experiment drawing inspiration from Filipino soundsystem martial arts cultures. Simon’s practice explores the entanglements of diaspora, queerness, and cultural memory through embodied and often collaborative forms.
