NFF25: Suffuse — New Forms Media Society

New Forms Festival returns with four days flowing with electronic music, audiovisual art, talks, and performances — Suffuse, October 22–25.

Suffuse is about cross-pollination. As one rhythm fills the room, its resonance bleeds into time signatures in another. This year’s collection of tempo and tone curators draw from the roots of electronic genres while reaching out into amorphic futures. We have much more in store for you than we can express in this preview, but here is a ripple of what to expect.

Overview

Twisting through the lattice of a late October weekend, our first night leans into the experimental and multidisciplinary with Liliane Chlela. Her deconstructed electronic rhythms have taken root in Montreal after marking the sonic landscape of Beirut. Perpetual rupture will structure the evening as Josh Ongcol guides us through a dance workshop. Meanwhile, Eric Cheung & Cristian Gonzalez will propel us into heightened new movements amplified by media architecture. The union of code, math, and audiovisual poetics finds itself in the expansive works of XEL and Andrew Sun, who will lend their sensitivities to our atrium space.

Our second evening roots itself in rhythms and resonances. Here we celebrate dub, sound system cultures, and kinetic release with acts such as DJ Spinn, a cofounder of the Teklife collective, and one of the most influential Chicago footwork and juke producers in existence. El Ángel Exterminador brings a significant presence from the local soundscape through their tenebral narratives and deconstructed rhythms. We juxtapose energies from wurld2000k and CHXMERAS who will lock us in physical motions while the sublime dub explorations of SEEKERSINTERNATIONAL further define our weekend program.
